The June Branch meeting was held at Combined Catering Services in Bootle. Our final gathering before the summer break will be on 4 July at Kitchequip, Southport. This is an inter-Branch social event with North West Branch and Yorkshire Branch Members also in attendance, but other HCA Members are most welcome. (And hopefully the weather will be kinder than last year when it felt more like the South Atlantic in winter rather than summer in Southport…)

The Branch would like to extend its congratulations to the Conference Committee for the 2008 Conference. Those who attended thought it was well presented and provided a lot of ‘food for thought’. Well done to all.
Best wishes go to Amanda Cartmill who has become Assistant Facilities Manager at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
And finally, congratulations to the Catering Department at University Hospital Aintree in Liverpool, for winning one of the Trust’s ‘Team of the Year’ competitions. They entered the section ‘Going the Extra Mile’, but they dispensed with that title and adopted their own: ‘Forget the Extra Mile - We’re Going Local’ - acknowledging the Department’s efforts in buying local produce. A prime example is cooked pork joints - previously the pork came from as far away as Denmark, but now it is reared, slaughtered and cooked locally.
