Northern Branch News

From Carol Tarren

Several Northern Branch Members headed over the border to support the West of Scotland Study Day and Burns Supper. The Study Day Theme was `The Diamond Facets of Hospital Caterers` which Members found informative and interesting.

It was followed with a black-tie reception and traditional Scottish dancing. The food was excellent, yet again - which is more than could be said for the weather.

Several Northern Branch Members - and in particular those who regularly attend Burns Suppers - are renowned for their lack of a sense of direction when attending meetings and finding new venues and, true to tradition, they got lost on the way home. The car in question left Troon and instead of heading south headed north and ended up in Stranraer. They eventually arrived in Darlington six hours after leaving Scotland - a journey that normally takes three hours! The main blame for the disastrous journey was put firmly on Paul Birch (the Conference 09 Secretary) for telling them to turn right at the roundabout - which one he was referring to we still don’t know!

Maybe a train or plane would be an alternative mode of transport for future travel by these particular Members. You know who you are!!
