Our March meeting was held at the premises of King Asia Foods Ltd, in Doncaster, which was hosted by Roy McKenna, National Accounts Manager.
Following a presentation about the company and its products, we toured the facility, gaining an interesting and informative insight into what goes into the development and manufacture of the foodstuffs we take for granted when we buy, prepare, and offer them to our clients.
An excellent supper followed, during which we sampled the products we had seen being manufactured, and the pile of empty plates was testament to the quality of the food. Our thanks to Roy and his staff who made us very welcome.
May saw us returning to the Bexley Wing at St James University Hospital, Leeds. Our host was Kay Lawton, Head of Catering, and the meeting was sponsored by Nigel Murphy, Account Manager of Autobar UK Ltd, although unfortunately he was unable to attend at the last minute due to work commitments. We look forward to his presentation at a future date.
A highly interesting and thought-provoking interactive session on Hygiene Management was given by Branch Member, Richard Sprenger, who is Managing Director of Highfield.co.uk Ltd and author of the much revered ‘Hygiene for Management’ and several other publications.
The supper that followed was supplied and sponsored by Tiffin Sandwiches, and was excellent. (Where would we be without the generosity of our Sponsors?) Twenty-four Members attended this meeting, continuing the excellent attendance numbers we are achieving lately.
Hotel fire
Members may have seen reports on the national news a few weeks ago about the severe fire at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate, where our Branch is hosting the 2011 National Conference. The hotel is expected to partially re-open in June, and thankfully will be fully operational by the time Conference opens next March.
After the initial shock, we can now breathe a sigh of relief, and get on with the planning. All Members who attended Conference in Blackpool said we have a lot to live up to, as it was excellent! Well done to the North West Branch.
