Introduction to today’s NHS

Jane Roy, Head of Induction Programmes led the group through the Introduction to Today’s NHS.

The programmes that are offered relating to induction consist of “ Introduction to Today’s NHS” a 60 minute programme, and “Working for the NHS” a longer on-going resources.

The Introduction to today’s NHS Programme was sent to HR Directors in August 2004.

The objectives of the programme are to:

The programme follows one patient's pathway through the NHS, looking at all the people and services involved in his care. It aims to show how the values of the NHS - equal access, dignity and respect, control and choice, and team working can be brought to life through the way people go about their everyday work.

The programme uses video and audio to illustrate the experiences of the patient and the staff he meets along the way. Sessions are interactive, and include group discussion points to further explore the issues raised throughout the programme.

The programme is facilitated by staff, supervisors and managers.

It was recognised that the programme has more uses than just induction.
