At the end of August, the Branch held its annual team building day at ‘Can You Escape?’ in Edinburgh. This venue has themed rooms that you are locked in for 60 minutes and you must solve the game to win your freedom. Only one team – The Tena Ladies – escaped in time. It was then followed by a meal and drinks at Brewmania.

In early September we joined the West of Scotland Branch to visit Edinburgh-based producer Stoats (Scotland Food & Drink Member). Stoats produce rolled oats and oat-based products in the form of oat bars and instant porridge pots, and they are currently launching a cereal bar for children.

Tony Stoats, co-founder, explained how the company progressed from a mobile Porridge Bar that served fresh porridge with various toppings to developing oat bars in his mum’s kitchen and then expanding into the current premises. The presentation was informative, interesting and educational, and a tour of the factory and production unit followed.

Mid-September saw Storm Ali put paid to the Branch’s Christmas tasting lunch at Bidfood’s Frozen Depot at Larbert. This will be re-arranged at a later date. Our Branch Dinner was held in Edinburgh at the end of October, and our AGM was held on 23 November at Waverley Gate, Edinburgh.
